Discover Jesus

At some point in life, every person begins asking deeper questions:

Why am I here?

Is there more to life than this?

What happens after death?

Can I truly know God?

The Bible gives real answers to those questions. More importantly, it reveals that God is not distant, cold, or uninterested in you. He created you, knows you, loves you, and desires a real relationship with you.

But before we can understand the good news of Jesus Christ, we must first understand the reality of our condition before God.

Declare Your Faith

Now that you have discovered Jesus Christ as your Savior, the next biblical step is to publicly declare your faith through baptism.

Baptism does not save you, but it is an act of obedience to God’s Word and a public testimony that your life has been changed by Jesus Christ. Before Jesus ascended back to Heaven, He commanded His followers to be baptized and publicly identify with Him.

In Romans 6:4, the Bible says, “Therefore we are buried with him by baptism into death: that like as Christ was raised up from the dead… even so we also should walk in newness of life.”

Through baptism, a believer identifies with the death, burial, and resurrection of Jesus Christ and boldly declares their desire to follow Him. It is an exciting and meaningful step in the Christian life—a celebration of the new life God has given you through Jesus Christ.

At Hillcrest Baptist Church, baptism takes place publicly during one of our worship services as an opportunity for the church family to rejoice and celebrate what God is doing in your life.

Devote Yourself

God never intended for the Christian life to be lived alone. After salvation and baptism, believers are called to devote themselves to the Lord through the local New Testament church.

In Acts 2, the Bible describes how the early Christians faithfully gathered together for biblical teaching, fellowship, prayer, worship, and spiritual growth. Acts 2:42 says, “And they continued stedfastly in the apostles’ doctrine and fellowship, and in breaking of bread, and in prayers.”

Church membership is an important biblical step of commitment and spiritual growth. Through the local church, believers are encouraged, discipled, strengthened, and equipped to faithfully follow Jesus Christ alongside other Christians.

At Hillcrest Baptist Church, this happens through worship services, Life Groups, discipleship, prayer, serving, and genuine biblical community. As you devote yourself to God and His church, your faith will continue to grow deeper and stronger.

One of the best ways to take this step is through Discover Hillcrest, our membership and connection class. During this class, we walk through the history and mission of Hillcrest Baptist Church, explain salvation and baptism, discuss our biblical beliefs and church structure, and show how each person can grow, serve, and get involved within the life of the church. Every prospective member also receives a copy of our church bylaws and is asked to read, sign, and return a membership covenant before being presented to the church for membership.

Develop Your Gifts

God did not save us to simply sit on the sidelines. Every believer has been uniquely gifted by the Holy Spirit to serve others, strengthen the church, and bring glory to God.

The Bible says in 1 Peter 4:10, “As every man hath received the gift, even so minister the same one to another, as good stewards of the manifold grace of God.”

God has intentionally given every Christian gifts, abilities, and opportunities that can be used to impact others for Jesus Christ. As you grow in your walk with God, He desires to use your life to encourage people, meet needs, serve within the local church, and shine the light of Jesus to the world around you. Whether through serving in a ministry, helping behind the scenes, encouraging others, or sharing the gospel, there is a place for you to be involved and make a difference.

At Hillcrest Baptist Church, we believe serving is not just about filling a role—it is about using the life God has given you to glorify Him and help others grow in their relationship with Christ.

Ready to get involved? We would love to help you discover opportunities to serve, grow, and use your gifts for God’s glory.
