Harvey was the first major hurricane of the 2017 Atlantic Hurricane Season and developed from a tropical wave to the east of the Lesser Antilles, reaching tropical storm status on the 17th of August. Tropical Storm Harvey began to weaken due to the moderate wind shear as it entered the Caribbean Sea. Harvey then began to rapidly intensify on the 24th of August, earning the status of a hurricane on that same day. The next day, Harvey gained enough strength to be classified as a Category 4 Hurricane. A few hours later, Hurricane Harvey made landfall near Rockport, Texas at it’s peak intensity. The hurricane as of (August 31) caused unprecedented and catastrophic flooding in southeastern Texas and is currently a weakening tropical cyclone in Louisiana and Mississippi. More updates will be added to this page as the storm progresses into the southern United States.
